This is a highly skilled band that I have mostly ignored over the years. Between their drummer, vocalist, and Christian Münzner on guitars, they have a ton of experience in various bands, and I have all of their LPs in my files, but I haven't listened much over the years. That has probably been a mistake because this album is very well constructed, and even though the screechy vocals aren't my favorite I still like the music a lot.

From what I can tell, this is a one-man project from Perth. The style is tagged as death metal/deathcore, but I don't necessarily hear a lot of "core." There are some quirky elements incorporated into the music, but I think it works quite well to create a heavy and entertaining vibe throughout.

I had two different "Vomit bands" in my July folder: this one and the next post, Vomitizer. I really didn't expect much out of either album, and then I ended up liking both releases a lot. It goes to show that first impression bias can be very damaging. Portugal has been generating a lot of good bands/releases over the past several years and this is another one.

This may not appeal to a wide swath of the thrash fans out there, after the first couple of tracks I wasn't convinced but I liked the old school rawness and then the longer I listened the more I liked this album.

Here is the new album from Red Dead. Well, it was new in March, and it still deserves attention now if you missed it. I knew this band from their 2017 album and liked that one, but then I missed their last one in 2020. I knew they released an album, but didn't get around to it until now, and I like it too.

4. Dominion of Eternal Blasphemy

5. Fiendish Visions

6. Skeletal Vortex

8. Ecstacy of Death

Witness: -[*]-
This is my first experience with Mortual, but they have been around for about 8 years now and have a couple of EPs, a split, and a demo prior to this release. At times, some of the songs can be a little too slow and doomy-sounding for me, but overall, I really like this album.

Savage Oath - Divine Battle [2025]

1. Knight of the Night

2. Wings of Vengeance

3. Blood for the King

4. Smoke at Dawn

5. Madness of the Crowd

6. Savage Oath

7. Divine Battle

Witness: -[*]-
First off, I want to say thank you to our friend El Faffo for turning me onto this killer piece of US power metal perfection. Back in the '80s, I loved bands that played this style of heavy metal, and I know that there are a lot of modern bands trying to carry the banner for this style, but to me, many of the newer bands sound weak, trying to recapture the sound. Not Savage Oath, these guys are top-notch and spot-on in their conception and delivery of these songs. These guys are for real.

Atomic Witch - Death Etiquette [2025]

Artist: Atomic Witch

Album: Death Etiquette
Year: 2025
Genre: Thrash Metal / Death Metal
Web: https://youtu.be/Yq73tyn-7RI / https://atomicwitch.bandcamp.com

Quality: 320 Kbps

Tracklist:
1. Morgue Rat

2. Of Flesh & Chrome

3. Worms & Dirt

4. Dream Rot

5. Sabbath Breaker

6. Death Edging

7. Skelecidal

8. Vicious Mistress

Witness: -[*]-
Cleveland thrashers Atomic Witch are back with a new album, and for my tastes, this collection of songs is a bit more consistent than their 2022 album, even though I am certain it will still be easy to find some fault with the vocals. I get that, but overall this album works for me.

Zombie Feast - They Shall Walk Again [2025]

Artist: Zombie Feast

Album: They Shall Walk Again
Year: 2025
Genre: Death Metal
Web: https://youtu.be/284Bm5UW4PE / https://zombiefeast.bandcamp.com/

1. Cannibalic Splatteration

2. Changeling into Undead

3. They Shall Walk Again

4. Chainsaw Suicide

5. Within the Rooms of Agony and Torment

6. Dismemered Bodies

7. Rituals of Flesh and Blood

8. Horrible Massacre

Witness: -[*]-
I seem to remember CarlG promoting this release several months back, and it is not bad at all. Not to be confused with the German Zombie Riot, this is a Greek band who create a solid style of mid-paced, straightforward death metal in their own right. Their self-titled EP from 2022 is good as well.

Messiah Paratroops - Legions of Tomorrow [2025]

Artist: Messiah Paratroops

Album: Legions of Tomorrow
Year: 2025
Genre: Death Metal / Thrash Metal
Web: https://www.messiah-paratroops.com/en/ / https://www.facebook.com/messiahparatroops/
Country: Finland
Quality: 320 Kbps

Tracklist:
1. Out of Reality

2. Rats in the Walls

3. Messiah Paratroops

4. Morbid Prayer

5. Repulsion

6. Bloodlust

7. Legions of Tomorrow

8. Murders of the Lake

9. Painful Sleep

Witness: -[*]-
It seems this band first formed in 1989, but it also appears that the vocalist is the only original member remaining, and this is their first LP. They put out five demos and an EP in the early '90s and then really nothing until this year. This is a decent death thrash album with a straightforward and old-school sound as you might expect from a band that's been around since The Eighties.

Burning Palace - Elegy [2025]

Burning Palace is a relatively new tech-death band from an area in the North Bay where I used to live 20+ years ago. This album shows that the band has potential.

Here is a new black metal band from Warsaw that incorporates just enough death metal elements to create 48 minutes of highly engaging metal.

8. Death Will Hunt You Down

9. A Unity Your Messiah Pre Claimed?

10. Dawn of Simplicity

11. Context Is for Kings (Stupidity and Mankind)

Witness: -[*]-
Phlebotomized is a long-running band that was originally formed in 1989 as Bacterial Disease but changed its name in 1990. This album is my first exposure to their music. The band's style is varied and interesting, perhaps too diverse for many death metal purists. I like it though for a change of pace.

7. Mouth of the River

8. Light the Beacons

9. Depraved World

Witness: -[*]-
I wasn't really anticipating this album, and as such, didn't know what the band was going for with this release. My first impression upon listening was that this album had a very melodic, almost 80s heavy metal feel in several of the riffs. It reminded me of late 90s melodic Euro-death when the genre was going through a bit of an identity crisis. Then, I read up on the album and learned that a heavy metal feel was what the band was going for when they created these tracks. I'm not going to say that it works completely from start to finish, but overall, I like this album.
