Phlebotomized is a long-running band that was originally formed in 1989 as Bacterial Disease but changed its name in 1990. This album is my first exposure to their music. The band's style is varied and interesting, perhaps too diverse for many death metal purists. I like it though for a change of pace.

I wasn't really anticipating this album, and as such, didn't know what the band was going for with this release. My first impression upon listening was that this album had a very melodic, almost 80s heavy metal feel in several of the riffs. It reminded me of late 90s melodic Euro-death when the genre was going through a bit of an identity crisis. Then, I read up on the album and learned that a heavy metal feel was what the band was going for when they created these tracks. I'm not going to say that it works completely from start to finish, but overall, I like this album.

I was excited to listen to this one because I had read some comments, from people whose musical tastes I respect, saying this is a good album. I listened to it... and it didn't grab me. There is something about the vocal style that I didn't care much for upon first listen. It's probably just me. I will give it a few more chances.

So, I wanted to bring Into Darkness back to the front of the house this weekend. I really liked this album, and it's a damn shame that these guys broke up when they did. Their 2012 release isn't recorded as well, but it's damn good too, listen and support \m/\m/

Damn, here is yet another good young band from Finland. I know it has always been a fertile breeding ground for death and black metal, but over the last handful of years, the bands coming out of that country are some of my favorites. I specifically like the lead guitar work in these songs it's rocking!

I had totally forgotten about this band, but I've had their debut EP posted here for more than a decade now. When I came across this album a couple of months ago, I didn't expect to like it as much as I do, but now that I am remembering their earlier work, it all makes sense. This band makes good use of heavy drum beats, brutish riffs, and deep vocals. I like it!

Difuntor is a Brazilian band that has been at it since 2007, or at least the vocalist has, but this album is my first experience with their music. I want to say that this disc is a "grower," meaning the more I listened to it, the more I liked it, so I went back and checked out their 2024 album as well. I like it too.

Interesting, I stumbled across this band while doing some research on the US band of the same name. It appears that this trio from Jyväskylä, Finland, was actually the original Decedent as they formed about one year earlier than their US counterparts. I like this album a lot as well, as it doesn't sound much like a lot of the other Finnish death that is out here at the moment.

I'm not sure how this is considered a full-length when it only contains six proper tracks and clocks in at just over 29 minutes, but I like it anyway, as these guys have a bit of a different sound. From Concepción, Chile, comes Larvae.
