I know that a lot of the death metal purists are vehemently opposed to anything with "core" in it but some of the technical deathcore bands make some highly entertaining music in my opinion and this band from Vienna happens to be in that category. Formerly known as Dayum, they changed their moniker in 2020 and I think it suits their style quite well.
Three of the 4 members of Dayum went on to form or basically change their name to Spire Of Lazarus within months of releasing this album. This is a good one for the open minded listener.

Formerly known as Cannibal Grandpa, this is the 1st release under their new moniker Bonecarver. I have seen this labeled as both brutal death metal and technical deathcore and I can I hear both sides of it in their style, maybe more "core" than many will care for.

I've long liked this disc, it was one of my early favorites in 2013. This band carried a deathcore label and they were, so many will stay away but with they got enough prog-tech death metal goodness to make it very interesting in my opinion \m/\m/

These guys seem to have a very good grasp of the technical deathcore sound with enough death metal to keep it interesting for me all the way through \m/\m/
Damn! Another year has come and gone already, I can't get over how fast time flies by in my life, it's almost as if every trip around the sun takes only the blink of an eye. However, when I begin going back through the Metal that we've had this year, and for many years now, it can definitely bring some perspective to the time that has actually passed by. There were so many death metal releases again this year, and I know that I didn't even hear nearly all of them. To that point I have a good sized list of releases that either I didn't get a chance to absorb or just overlooked because of too much other stuff in the vault. Bands like Big End Bolt,Blast Perversion, Incremate, Prevail, Pargochy, Miasmal, Severed Limbs, Mental Apraxia, Breeding Filth, Abnormality, The Mutilator, and the new Demonseed are just a few of the unrepresented, and there are many more that will probably turn up on lists contributed by others. See, that's the problem with the excessive wealth we have in our genre, it breeds a sickness and it seems that I can never get enough to be satisfied, but yet there is way too much to ever fully appreciate. Another difficulty is that I am always looking to discover and promote newer bands, and often times it's at the expense of older more established bands, but that is the thing about having this site, it's my goal to turn people onto something that they may not have otherwise discovered and heard. If I can accomplish that for enough people, then I am doing my part to spread the Gospel of Metal and hopefully help death to flourish \m/\m/
My list is not an attempt to judge what were the best releases of 2016, but rather to point out the bands and offerings that I liked in hopes that others may discover something missed and decide for themselves, so here it is.
