The Best of The Death Chamber 2024

Another year has come and gone, 2025 seemed to go by more quickly for me than past years but then again I have been feeling that way at the end of each year here for the past many. Since it is the start of a new year it has been a tradition here at TDC to create BOTY lists. Over the years we have had many different contributors to this effort and I always appreciate the input by the friends of the site. My long-time friend CarlG is the most enthusiastic about maintaining this tradition I think this is because he is truly a death metal fanatic, he has a lot of free time, he loves to write, and he is strongly opinionated. I have always liked this tradition as well but last year chose not to post a list since I did not have time to listen to a large amount of what was released. This year is really no different, I am currently going through my September folder and have not had a chance to listen to many of the releases in my October, November, and December folders. The reason for this is that for the past 2 years, I have been making a concerted effort to listen to everything I download/purchase. I have been going through each folder in chronological order and listening to everything and as a result I have been 2-3 months behind the newest releases. Even with that being the case this year I have decided to create a list of my favorites based only on what I have posted here at the site.

Since this isn't a BOTY list in the traditional sense I decided to incorporate a bit of user feedback into the selections for my list. I am factoring in the number of times a file is downloaded and using this as a criteria to determine which albums are eligible for consideration. I am making an assumption that the number of downloads equates to how popular an album is with the people who visit TDC. I know this may be a flawed metric because there are many other sites providing download links and I typically post new releases long after other sites have so the number of downloads may not be truly representative but that is what I am going with this year.

To provide context here are some statistics,
There are currently 244 releases from 2024 posted @ TDC
50 albums are represented in this list
Only full-length albums and no EPs included
Average downloads for these albums = 67
To qualify for the list the album must have been downloaded at least 30 times
The order of ranking is based solely on my preference for the album

I hope you enjoyed the list and possibly found something that you may have missed throughout the year. I am looking forward to another strong year for metal in 2025 but I probably won't get to it for a few more months while I continue to jam to what came at the end of 2024 \m/\m/
